Hair porosity: everything you should know about it
Posted by Marketing Copyrighting on
Hair porosity is the ability of the hair to absorb moisture. The degree of natural hair porosity is directly related to the condition of the hair cuticle.
If you use frizz-free hair products or hydration treatment for hair, then you should be lucky to have healthy hair. Healthy hair with tight-fitting scales of the cuticle layer is resistant to the penetration of any chemicals and is called hydrophobic (moisture repellent). The surface of such hair is smooth, it reflects light, so hair shines. Oppositely, in case of porous hair, the cuticle layer is raised or completely absent, the hair is matte and easily absorbs moisture, and is considered hydrophilic (which means that it absorbs moisture).
There are 3 types of hair porosity:
- low porosity;
- medium porosity;
- high porosity.
Low porosity hair is considered healthy and resistant to penetration of any chemicals. As a rule, such hair is very shiny, especially if it‘s dark. We recommend using a liquid keratin hair mask for your hair to be healthy and non-porous.
Medium porosity hair is considered normal. Their cuticle layer is a little bit harsher and allows retaining only the necessary amount of moisture in the hair. Use blonde shampoo and conditioner to protect your hair and make it sleeker.
High porosity hair is considered super porous. In this case, porosity is usually the result of previous chemical treatments, exposure to high temperature, lack of proper care, environmental damage, or a natural property of the hair (like frizzy hair). Use frizz-free hair products to make your hair less porous.
